Module 01: Installation
The goal of this module is to get the DBA familiar with installing SQL Server and the configuration settings during installation. This module will discuss the installation process, how it differs in SQL Server 2005 and 2008, and some common best practices when it comes to installing SQL Server.

Module 02: Upgrading SQL Server

The goal of this module is to discuss the processes of upgrading and existing SQL Server environment to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008. This module will cover creating an upgrade plan, the upgrade process, and issues found when upgrading to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 from earlier versions.

Module 03: SQL Server DB Architectural Overview

The goal of this module is to get the DBA familiar with the basic architecture of SQL Server. This module will discuss how SQL Server architecture, the system databases, files and filegroups, transaction log architecture, data page structure, basic and index structure.

Module 04: SQL Server Tools & Utilities

The goal of this module is to get the DBA familiar with the basic tools found in SQL Server. This module will discuss SQL Server Management Studio, Configuration Manager, Surface Area Configuration tool, SQL Server Profiler, System Monitor, Upgrade Advisor, Performance Studio, Declarative Management Framework, and Database Tuning Advisor.

Module 05: File & Filegroup

The goal of this module is to give the DBA a deeper understanding of the best practices surrounding file and filegroups. This module discuss topics such as: file placement, optimizing the tempdb, file size, growing files, shrinking files and placing objects into different filegroups.

Module 06: Understanding Concurrency

The goal of this module is to introduce the DBA to the concurrency mechanisms of SQL Server. This module will discuss topics such as: transactions, isolation levels, lock escalation, blocking, deadlocking, locking hints, and the new snapshot isolation.

Module 07: Understanding I/O

Module 11: Understanding the SQL Server Query Optimizer

The goal of this module is to introduce the DBA to how the query optimizer an optimization process works in SQL Server. This module discuss the process of optimizing a query, query execution plans, the recompile process of queries, and wraps up with the basics of tuning SQL Server queries and stored procedures.

Module 12: Security

The goal of this module is to take the DBA deeper into SQL Server security. This module will discuss new security features, existing security features, security best practices, auditing, and security configurations.

Module 13: Indexing and Fragmentation
The goal of this module is to introduce the DBA to SQL Server indexes. This module will dive deep into indexes, index creation, index usage, index fragmentation, index maintenance, and the new index features found in SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008.

Module 14: Database Maintenance

The goal of this module is to introduce the DBA to the changes made to database maintenance and maintenance plans in SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008.

Module 15: Replication

Module 19: Database Mirroring
This goal of this module is to describe the guidelines and considerations for designing and administrating a high availability solution based on SQL Server Database Mirroring. This module provides the guidelines for determining a mirroring topology and explains the process of designing SQL Server Database Mirroring.
